Fear lingered during the torrential downpour on Tuesday, August 17, as Gordon Town in St. Andrew was again in the crosshairs of Tropical Storm Grace, but since it was badly damaged by heavy rainfall last year, significant progress has been made.
There are renewed hopes in Gordon Town, St. Andrew as residents look forward to seeing an end to their misery. The road was damaged during heavy rains in November, since then it’s been pandemonium for the rural St. Andrew residents.
Tropical Storm Grace has left a trail of disaster along the road, with minor landslides and some breakaways. Motorists had to approach with caution as loose rocks lined some sections of the roadway. And in other sections, workmen were removing sand from the reservoir.
Though the Gordon Town Road was not spared the wrath of Tropical Storm Grace, the residents say they are grateful it was nothing compared to the November disaster. One resident explains most people decided to stay in because of the rubble and debris blocking sections of the road. In months to come, the residents of Gordon Town and other communities say there will remain some level of anxiety as natural disasters threaten their homes.
