Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke notes the ruling last year handed down by the Supreme Court in relation to the treatment of security guards as employees and not private contractors. He says this ruling paves the way for security officers to have greater access to housing and other social benefits upending a process that spanned decades. Naturally, he says for this to begin customers of security firms will have to pay more.
The Minister accepts that without an appropriate mechanism to adjust the prices and amend the contract the sector could erupt into anarchy. So how will the task force proceed? He notes a breach of these terms will be grounds to terminate the contract with the related security firm.
