Following announcements from Jamaica Broilers to implement a 10% increase on poultry effective month-end, Agriculture Minister Pearnel Charles Jr., Tuesday tabled a raft of measures to ease the strain on local farmers and consumers. Speaking in Parliament Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

The 10% increase was announced by the Jamaica Broilers following the unprecedented price increase for raw materials to rear the animals. Minister Charles points out that the demand for raw material has surged ahead of the available supply. He notes if the issues are not addressed, they could lead to an increase in other poultry products. Meanwhile, the Minister adds that every challenge creates an opportunity to mention the shortage of chicks to farmers.

He says the government remains committed to engaging the relevant stakeholders and making Jamaica a food secure nation.
