“It’s going to take a process.” Referencing the complete resolution of the Rio Cobre pollution that affected fisher folk and residents across the St. Catherine space in 2022,  Attorney- at-Law representing those affected Dr. Marcus Goffe says the release of the funds is not contingent on any sort of prevention from going forward against Windalco.

Noting, those involved will continue in their pursuit of justice, adding they are comforted knowing this is not the end. Recalling the extent of the pollution’s damage, Dr. Goffe says there are still those who have yet to be consulted regarding their losses.

And, it depends on Windalco’s cooperation, as Dr. Goffe says the route taken to resolve the matter might be extensive if it goes to court since other factors need to be addressed. He believes those promised the 16 million dollar payout should be compensated by the end of January, at the latest.
