Fulton Supports Cattle Tagging

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Lenworth Fulton is concerned about educating farmers on the cattle tagging system in the push to stem praedial larceny.

He says the national cattle identification system is a workable strategy to prevent cattle theft.

The agriculturalist explains if the cattle are not accessible then it will be challenging to tag them. Fulton says more work is needed at the community level to educate farmers about the cattle tagging system. He also adds it will allow for cattle tracing. With increasing reports of cattle theft in the Kensington, Alexandria area of Clarendon the agriculture ministry is looking to have cattle identified with ear tags and corresponding passports by the end of September.
