A shortage of Justices of the Peace (JPs) has seen the Custos of St Andrew echoing calls for young people to apply to fill the role. He reminds them JPs do not just serve to sign documents but to perform a myriad of other duties. Custos of St Andrew, Ian Forbes is appealing to young people to consider taking up the mantle and serving as Justices of the Peace, though a voluntary post.

Forbes highlights that within St Andrew there are over two thousand JPs but that is still not inadequate citing opportunities among the under-served. Notwithstanding that there are some JPs who manage to besmirch the role, attaching a monetary figure for services rendered, the custos outlines the post comes with multi-dimensional duties.

The meeting was convened by DSP Coleridge Minto and is set to be a monthly police consultative committee engagement in Duhaney Park. These meetings will address concerns among stakeholders and seek to generate solutions on how communities can be better served by the authorities. Watch the report:
