The passing of Tropical Storm Grace on Tuesday, August 17, was enough to amplify the plight of residents and fisherfolk in Longwood District, Clarendon, who says they have had to endure flooding for years.

According to them, the area is a danger zone whenever it rains, mainly due to blocked drains. They also argue that they have been neglected by their political representatives over the years. They explained that when the area floods, taken they sometimes lose their boats or they are destroyed.

One fisherman while lamenting the damage to fishing vessels and accessories explained that the situation was all too familiar to the people of the area. He further explained that blocked drains are mainly responsible for the flooding woes of fisherfolk and residents whenever it rains.

According to this fisherman, the development of the Longwood District community has been placed on the back burner for years. Residents also voiced their discontent with the Member of Parliament for the area, as they say drain cleaning is not frequent and the gully in the area has not been fixed for year and it has been major part of the flooding issue.
