Flooded and blocked roadways across several communities on the Eastern belt showed the aftermath of Tropical Storm Grace, on Monday, August 18, which left many residents stranded. Communities in Harbour View and Bull Bay have been severely damaged due to the showers, causing many residents to question their hurricane preparedness plan as the season continues.

Efforts were made to clean the drains days before the start of the hurricane season, however, the flooded areas were once again passable. Mayor of the Kingston Municipality, Delroy Williams, says the drain aided in the water subsiding quickly, which he says residents are thankful.

Weise Road on Nine Miles, Bull Bay, the flood-prone area that suffered great devastation ten months ago when the river broke its course saw blocked roads once more. Though the extent of the damage was not as severe as what happened previously, it was enough to be impassable.

With a little over three months left in the hurricane season, residents are not feeling confident as to how prepared the roadways and drains are to channel large volumes of water, however, the Mayor says engineers and the municipality are assessing the damage and will come up with a solution soon.
