The Meteorological Service has extended the flash flood watch for flood-prone areas, of St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas, Kingston, St. Andrew, and St. Catherine. This extension comes as a broad trough in the central Caribbean is generating extensive cloud cover, showers, and thunderstorms, with the expectation that these conditions will persist across the region through Friday.

The Meteorological Service explains a pre-frontal trough is set to advance into the area today, interacting with the broad trough and intensifying the instability in the region. Jamaicans are advised to expect overcast conditions, accompanied by periods of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and the potential for landslides.

The flash flood watch will remain in effect until 5 PM on Thursday.
