A team of officers assigned to the St. Elizabeth Police Division seized one firearm and seventeen rounds of ammunition during an operation on the New Market main road in the parish on Wednesday, January 03. Reports from the Black River Police are that at about 3:30 p.m., lawmen were in the area when a man was seen driving a Toyota Allion motor car along the roadway. He was signaled to stop— to which he complied. A search of the vehicle was conducted and one 9mm Smith and Wesson SW9VE pistol with a magazine containing seventeen 9mm rounds of ammunition was found in his possession.

He was subsequently taken into custody; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations. Two men were shot and killed and another man was shot and injured along Wildman Street in Rose Gardens, Kingston on Wednesday, January 03.

Dead are:

Twenty-six-year-old Akiel Ainsworth, otherwise called ‘Bull’, labourer at a Kingston address

Thirty-year-old Dishane Palmer, otherwise called ‘Eddie’ labourer of a Kingston address

Reports from the Central Police are that at about 8:34 p.m., all three men were standing along the roadway when they were approached by a man who brandished a firearm and opened fire on them. The Police were alerted and on the arrival of the lawmen, all three men were taken to the hospital where Ainworth and Palmer succumbed to their injuries. The other man was admitted for treatment.
