Ending Male VS Male Conflict could save more lives than targeting gender violence: More women die in the conflict between men and men than in domestic or intimate partner violence, a high number of women also die in conflict with other women, yet much of the outcry in recent times has been around incidents of males attacking and killing females.
As we continue our exclusive report with Social Violence Anthropologist Dr. Herbert Gayle, he says it’s more effective to target violence in general if women are to be safer than to solely focus on gender violence. This as he notes in focusing on one gender greater social risks are created for the abandoned gender over time.
Though society is often incensed by acts of violence against women and girls by males, Dr Herbert Gayle says more can be achieved from ending male versus male violence than straddling gender lines.
Both black men and women walked out of plantation slavery with horrors and have been considered partners of pain. Dr Gayle says society runs the risk of being sexist if all the attention and resources shift to one gender over time.
