Prime Minister Andrew Holness is maintaining that there are no plans to call elections while the country grapples with the COVID-19 crisis. Speaking at a vaccination site in Richmond, St. Mary yesterday, he said his primary focus is to get the country back to normal as soon as possible.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says elections cost billions, adding that the Government is incapable of spending such funds at this time. There have been claims of the PM’s vaccine mobilization and public education campaign being politically motivated, as citizens anticipate Local Government Elections, due no later than February 2022.
During a media briefing on Monday, October 11, People’s National Party, (PNP) General Secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell while asserting that the Andrew Holness-led administration has failed at managing the COVID-19 pandemic, also accused the members of only being interested in politics and so much the administration’s Vaccine Mobilization and Public Education campaign.
But Prime Minister Holness has thrown the accusation right back at the PNP, adding that the Government of Jamaica has nothing to gain from elections at this time. He also expresses disappointment with Opposition Leader, Mark Golding’s stance on mandatory vaccination.
