A mother and a son incapable of taking care of their daily needs due to illnesses are asking the public to lend a helping hand, both are living in dreadful conditions.

87-year-old Gloria Dickens and her only child, 53-year-old Michael Burke have been living in a deplorable state for more than a year now. Both are occupying a one-bedroom dwelling below this deteriorating structure, on Main Street in Claremont, St. Ann.

Burke who would normally provide for his mother found himself incapable of even taking care of himself when he discovered in 2019 that he had a brain tumor.

The neurological disorder caused Burke to lose his sight completely. Making matters worse for his mother, who is diabetic, has a heart condition and hypertension. With daily persistent headaches, burke is seeking financial assistance for the removal of the tumor.

A childhood friend of Burke, who offers support sometimes, says he has been reaching out to political representatives for help, but his efforts are to no avail. He noted that what he wants for the mother and son is for them to be placed in a home or an infirmary however he says the process is rather lengthy and can take up to a minimum of three months.
