Protesters converged on Matilda’s Corner in Liguanea, St Andrew today (March 23), to protest gender-based violence and violence against children. 

Among the demonstrators were members of the Jamaica Household Workers Union, Advocates Network of Jamaica, and Gender Specialist, Professor Opal Palmer Adisa. Women’s Rights and Gender Justice Advocate, Ruth Howard, explains the wearing of black symbolizes their collective plea for ‘no more’.  According to the United Nations Development Programme, nearly one in three women in Jamaica has experienced gender-based violence while one in four women experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime. Watch the report:
