The Education Ministry will be seeking to improve challenge areas, following the Caribbean Examinations Council’s CSEC and CAPE results on Monday. Education Minister Fayval Williams also commended students on their achievements under very challenging circumstances.

The exam results which on Wednesday led to a media briefing hosted by the Education Minister. Minister Williams says for both private and public institutions, Jamaican candidates were entered for 34 CSEC subjects, of which a total of 46-thousand 7 hundred and 27 candidates were registered to sit the exams. She says of those candidates who entered, approximately 91% did the exam where 76.7% passed at least one subject with grades 1-3.

The Education Minister says while there were 143 more students registered from public schools when compared to last year, and despite improvements in certain subject areas, the pass rate for maths and English has declined. Meanwhile, the Caribbean advanced proficiency examination, cape, saw improvements in units one and two.
