Edmund Bartlett: Jamaica’s Tourism Industry Exceeded All Key Performing Indexes

With record breaking tourist arrivals to the island in 2019 and significant strides within the sector, Jamaica is gearing up for global tourism growth over the next decade.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett appeared on CVM LIVE, and gave a year in review of the tourism industry plus plans for the 2020 tourism season.

According to Minister Bartlett, 2019 has been a spectacular year for tourism as the country has exceeded all key performing indexes.

Five key performance indicators were established to position growth over five years.

Stopover arrivals are pacing at an 8% growth, which is 3% percent over what was projected while earnings are estimated at over 10%.

Bartlett adds that the construction of 15,000 more rooms over the 5 year period, is lagging behind but the pipeline is loaded.

He notes that tourism is the vehicle to massive investments.

For the 2020 Tourism Season, Bartlett is predicting more growth.

Another anticipated move, is the start of the historic pension programme for the workers of the tourism industry.

The Minister has projected $3.7 billion dollars in revenue by the end of the year.
