According to Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett, 2022 was a successful year for Jamaica’s tourism sector. He notes the industry has largely recovered from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world in 2020. The Minister outlined that several areas saw a boost.

Minister Bartlett says though a gap remains for workers, there are still a substantial amount to keep the industry afloat. He notes that tourism’s recovery has been faster than most industries on a global scale. However, the Minister has concerns over the continuation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict’s effect on the supply chain.

He also highlighted that the ministry has always had a long-term plan along with and including partnerships to create alternative ways in which the sector benefits. But is the tourism sector prepared to deal with the ripple effects of another recession?
