A curfew in effect in sections of east Kingston has been lifted at 8 Tuesday evening, however, heavy police presence will remain in sections of the division. The crime-fighting measure became necessary following an upsurge of violence in the area recently.

Head of the East Kingston Division Superintendent Tommie Lee Chambers says the curfew which was imposed in sections of the division has been extended in sections of the Rockfort community, noting the recent uptick in violence has prompted the police to maintain a strong presence. The superintendent explains the flare-up in violence stems from an ongoing gang feud. Security checkpoints have also been in place to target criminals and persons of interest.

Superintendent chambers also note though crime in the area has been rampant, there has been a reduction when compared to 2021. Watch the report:
