‘Dog Paw’ Dead, Tavern Community Expresses Sadness

Reports are that Christopher ‘Dog Paw’ Linton was shot during a confrontation with the police in Elletson Flats, St. Andrew ON Monday, October 11. Reports are that police acting on information, intercepted a vehicle in which armed men were believed to be traveling. When asked to stop, he allegedly alighted from the vehicle and opened fire at the police. The gunfire was returned and Linton was shot. He was taken to a nearby medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries.

A woman who was in the vehicle was detained. The police say a 45 pistol was seized following the incident.

The matter is being investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM). Head of the Crime and Security Portfolio, Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey confirmed the incident.

Our news team was informed by relatives that he went to visit a doctor for an ear infection and was on his way back home when he was fatally shot by the police. His relatives say they have reported threats received from the police, multiple times. They say this is not the first time, Linton is being shot at by the police. In 2013 he was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm,

He was however freed in April of this year after his conviction was quashed in the court of appeal. In June, Linton was hospitalized after being shot by gunmen in Bull Bay, St Andrew.

Linton was for several years regarded as one of Jamaica’s most wanted men. He was the alleged leader of the eastern St. Andrew based Dog Paw Gang, which is said to be responsible for a number of shootings and murders across the corporate area. On several occasions, Linton denied these reports against him and so too members of his family and the community where he lived.
