Several detainees at the Freeport Lockup in Montego Bay, St. James have contracted COVID-19.

Presently no visits are allowed and other activities at the facility have been suspended.

Head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Communications Unit, SSP Stephanie Lindsay says the police are working closely with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to conduct contact tracing.

Additionally, SSP Lindsay says there is no need for detainees’ relatives to panic, as precautionary measures are being taken are in their best interest.

The St. James Health Department is reviewing more test results to determine the full extent of the outbreak.
