Desmond McKenzie: Infirmaries to Accept More Homeless

Come July 1, more homeless persons will be accepted at infirmaries, as they were closed off to outsiders due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This announcement was made by Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie.

While speaking at an event in St. James, this week, he also said major projects to help bolster the lives of the homeless in the parish are coming. Speaking at the St. James Municipal Corporation recently, Minister Desmond McKenzie says there’re talks with the government to improve the lives of the homeless in the parish, noting that social housing will be provided.

He says the homeless shelters in St. James will also be seeing an upgrade. Minister McKenzie sought to highlight the major upgrades to the infirmaries across the island. The infirmaries were also afforded the luxury of having physiotherapy and medical support, a first according to the minister. He also adds drop in centers across the island will also be providing at least two meals a day for those in need.

The infirmaries will be accepting new persons in the near future. However the conditions are that the individual must be vaccinated.
