‘The impact of increased visibility,’ is what the Manager of Crime Stop, Cherise Bruce Douglas is crediting for the major increase in crime-related tips to the agency. In 2021, 685 tips were reported, which reflected a marked increase in 2022, of 1145. Douglas says the tips have to lead to a success rate of one in seven.
Bruce Douglas proudly mentions the exponential increase stemming from the agency’s collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Major Organised Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency Headquarters (MOCA), and the Jamaica Customs Agency.
Noting, the impact of social media campaigns that urge citizens to share information on criminal activities. And confidence plays a major role, as she says the agency’s 33-year history has never been stained by a single source being compromised. Adding, building trustworthy relationships creates a safe environment for citizens.
Bruce Douglas says the agency has paid over 7. 8 million dollars in rewards and manages to maintain anonymity.
