Crime Consensus Committee responds to murder figures: As of January 1 to November 14, 2020 Jamaica has recorded 1,133 murders, this compared to 2019’s figure of 1,154 over the same period.
According to the Chairman of the Crime Monitoring and Oversight Committee, Lloyd Distant, it was identified that an emphasis is needed on prevention to truly have a sustainable permanent reduction in the level of crime.
The National Consensus identified 39 actionable milestones to achieve in seven key areas.
Distant says that there are four deliverables that are due by the end of the year, with the fourth area being to assemble a special task force to review the Procurement Act and to focus on ensuring state resources are not diverted to organized crime or corruption.
