A Correctional Officer based at the St. Catherine Adult Correctional Centre was stabbed by an inmate earlier yesterday at the facility.
The officer identified as 32 year old Jimel Westney later died while undergoing surgery at the Spanish Town Hospital.
Officer Westney was in his 7th week of duty with the Department of Correctional Services.
According to the department about 9:45 am during the unlocking process, an inmate stabbed the officer on duty.
The inmate was reportedly subdued by the victims colleagues.
an investigation has been launched into the incident.
This follows the deadly attack on another member of National Security, Constable Kirkland Plummer five days ago just over the border of Manchester and Clarendon.
