The World Health Organization has declared the Coronavirus that originated in China, as a global health emergency.
The virus continues to spread outside of China and countries are on high alert as they put measures in place to prevent the deadly virus from entering their countries.
The virus is now a major threat to countries all over the world and has already spread to 18 countries with a total of 98 confirmed cases.
The World Health Organization however notes that there are no reported deaths outside of China.
Meanwhile, The University of the West Indies Mona says its taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of UWI students and staff in China.
UWI confirms that of the 36 students enrolled in a bachelor of science software engineering programme at UWI-China Institute of Information Technology 28 students and an administrator are currently in Suzhou, China.
The Vice-Chancellor also notes that the university will be playing its part as the threat of the Coronavirus increases.
In Canada, Ontario public health officials have tested 67 people for possible Coronavirus infection. 38 were negative, two positive and 27 are pending.
