Opposition Leader Mark Golding had condemned the Prime Minister’s statements on the National Housing Trust not being a charity. Golding says the Prime Minister has some explaining to do as his understanding of the entity doesn’t align with the Prime Minister’s. President of the People’s National Party, Mark Golding is defending the National Housing Trust’s (NHT) role as an affordable housing solution for Jamaicans. This follows an earlier statement by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, that the NHT is not a charity.

Speaking at the Spaulding divisional conference in Clarendon on Thursday he addressed concerns about the idea of NHT paying interest to commercial banks who will lend money to borrowers. He says this may make homeownership for Jamaicans more difficult. Golding is seeking clarity from Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
