As the Ministry readies itself for the impact of the virus, the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jacquiline Bissasor Mckenzie is confident that the relatively mild virus will be contained. She says the case identified is in the parish of Clarendon. The family members of the infected have been quarantined while contact tracing is underway.

Because of the mild nature of the virus, she is confident it poses no risk to surrounding communities. Bisasor-McKenzie says there are measures to treat those infected.

The first case of Monkeypox was announced on Wednesday by the Health Minister. The individual arrived on the island 6 days ago from the United Kingdom and presented to the health system on July 5. Watch the full report below:
