Vendors and river patrons were left confused on Thursday, August 5, after they turned up at the popular Spanish Bridge in St. Mary only to discover that it was closed to the public and was being manned by armed guards from the Hawkeye Security Group.
The move has left vendors questioning the surprise closure and calling for answers from the authorities. A vendor who has been selling at the Spanish Bridge attraction for more than thirty years says no notice was given for the closure of the property. The police who were on location say they were not aware as to who authorized the closure of the river.
Later men arrived with gates to be installed on the property; however, that process was disrupted upon the arrival of the police as the men attempted to use illegal electricity connections for the job. It is still unclear what exactly led to the closure of the space to the public.
