Crime, corruption and other issues in Jamaica will once again be tackled by the nation’s churches on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. The annual event, “A Day of Prayer” is shaping up to be a memorable one despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the steady rate of crime and other social ills crippling the Jamaican society, the leaders of churches across the island are once again hosting a day of prayer directed toward the nation. The year’s event, themed “Heal the Family, Heal the Nation” will be held on Wednesday January 5 however church leaders gathered on Monday to discuss purpose and expectations.
Speaking with CVM Live, leader of the Holiness Christian Church Inc. Bishop Dr. Alvin Bailey says a major topic of prayer will be crime and corruption. Chairman of the 10,000 Men and Families Movement, Bishop Rowan Edwards says the event’s theme is one of significant importance.
He highlights father absenteeism as one major issue affecting boys locally, thus lauding the ceremony for calling attention to the matter. Bishop Delford Davis, Senior Pastor of the Power of Faith Ministries International Inc. Says COVID-19 protocols will be observed.
Jamaica’s Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, and Opposition Leader Mark Golding are all listed as officials who’ll be in attendance.
