Chang says the church can play an instrumental role in the fight against crime

According to the  Minister  of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang, the church could play an instrumental role in addressing the level of criminality across the country

It is a popular fact that Jamaica has the most churches per square kilometer in the world, but at the same time it has one of the highest murder rates  globally.

The Security Minister is therefore suggesting that the church be used effectively as a social institution to deal with criminal elements tormenting the country.

The minister was speaking at a Crime Prevention Research conference held at the northern Caribbean university recently.

He  says, in many of what he describes as ‘depressed communities’ the church is the only stable institution that assists the community through trans-formative stages and can therefore instill acceptable values in children. Chang  that fact that children as young as 13 years old are used as covers to carry weapons as they won’t be obvious suspect by law enforcers. He argues that with this exposure to dangerous weapons youth are normally enco

Chang says the social institution creates a common ground in communities and is often where people go to seek help when they fail to get it elsewhere.
