On Wednesday, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Pearnel Charles Jr participated in the tagging of cattle in the area, in an effort to curb praedial larceny through the use of technology. The promise to offer support to farmers, suffering at the hands of praedial thieves has been fulfilled.

In May, Minister Charles Jr said it is required that by the end of September all farmers, will be required to have their cattle identified with ear tags and corresponding passports. The move comes as a way of mitigating the increased reports of cattle theft. This was done under the National Animal Identification and Traceability System (NAITS). The Minister says this will go a far way in preventing praedial larceny and enhance the traceability of animals. Farmers were also gifted with passports for their cattle.

Also, speaking with CVM LIVE last Friday the Minister says praedial larceny is a longstanding problem that prevents people from investing in agriculture. He is calling on other farmers to arrange for cattle tagging. Watch the full report for details:
