Under the overarching theme “Strategic Partners for a Resilient Future,” Caribbean heads of state convened with Canada’s Prime Minister during the Canada-CARICOM Summit. Their discussions centered on the prospects for growth and sustainable development throughout the region. This summit, which concludes today, marked the inaugural occasion of being hosted on Canadian soil. It shed light on ongoing issues, such as the Caribbean’s ongoing loss of skilled labor to Canada and the unrest in Haiti.

In acknowledgment of the evolving economic landscape and the continuous advancements in technology, Holness emphasized the urgent need for increased investments in human resource development. Yet, he was quick to underscore that migration opportunities often draw away the region’s most vital resource.
