The recent motion to change the regulations that prevent women from wearing short-sleeves in parliament has sparked much conversation. CVM LIVE spoke with some experts, all of whom are agreeing it is time for Jamaica to pass the motion and go modern. 

The most common justification for the agreement is Jamaica’s warm climate, which they say makes it uncomfortable to wear sleeved clothing, especially for long periods. 

Former member of the House of Representatives Sharon Hay-Webster recalls the challenges she faced when she had to focus on the matter being discussed, while in discomfort from her attire.  She dismisses claims that a relaxation of the regulation would result in skimpy and inappropriate attire, noting the motion should not be trivialized. 

Former member of parliament for St. James Central Lloyd B Smith says one way to ensure that does not happen is to implement clear guidelines to accompany the relaxed regulation. More details below:
