While not undermining the importance of academia and traditional education, at least one stakeholder is calling for the addition of music, dance and sports to the formal school curriculum. The Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, says this initiative can deter young men from crime. As crime continues to cripple brand Jamaica and stain its name on the global stage, stakeholders continue to scramble to find methods to reduce its prevalence.

Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, is suggesting an adjustment to School curriculum to integrate the formal teachings of music, dance and sports. This, he says, will provide additional opportunities for young men, which subsequently steers them away from a life of crime. The Security Minister was speaking to youngsters at the Rio Cobre Juvenile Correctional Centre in St. Catherine. To cement his position, he notes the global reach and impact of Jamaican reggae and the record-breaking achievements of Jamaican athletes. He explains, however, to capitalize on these opportunities, discipline, and dedication are fundamental.
