Equity in education and stronger relations with schools and their communities were among the issues highlighted by Shadow Minister on Education Dr. Angela Brown-Burke in her contribution to the Sectoral Debate.
While she is in support of a few initiatives launched by the government, she is calling for more urgency in helping students who have fallen behind. Brown-Burke is calling for equity in the school system for some students. She notes there should be accessibility to the same opportunities for students to be educated.
Dr. Brown-Burke says while ensuring there is equity among students, a collaboration of the community also contributes to the development of students. This she notes has been evident in many studies conducted, adding that a solution to better bolster the relationship between communities and institutions, is to recover the 120 students who have fallen off the radar since 2020.
The Shadow Minister also noted that schools she has engaged have recovered at least 90 percent of their students, which was due to keeping their doors open amid the closure. More details in this report:
