Killed to send a message, that is how law enforcement describes the shooting death of a Kingston resident Thursday night. The bar operator of Grape Road, Kingston 11 in St. Andrew was shot just outside her bar in the community. Commanding Officer for the St Andrew South Police Division, Senior Superintendent Kirk Ricketts says after 8 o’clock a group of men drove up on motorbikes and opened fire on the woman identified as Maxine Hylton.
Though at an early stage of the investigation the commanding officer says they believe it is gang related. This follows a State of Emergency declared by Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Wednesday in the parish. Recently SSP Ricketts disclosed there are over 70 gangs across communities in the division, 40 of which are currently active. Meantime, he is appealing to persons with information to communicate with the police.
