More concerns are raised as the COVID-19 numbers continue to surge. Fifteen deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, amid 656 positive cases. The Ministry is yet to divulge the total numbers, there has been confirmation of a covid cluster in one of the corporate areas’ BPO centers.
Since the onset of the third wave of the COVID-19 virus, Saturday displayed the highest number. With a concerning triple-digit of 656 cases for Saturday, August 13.
Kingston and St. Andrew with 116 cases, recorded the highest number of positives.
At this time sources say a cluster of covid cases was detected in the commerce hub.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor Mckenzie says though the cluster is detected, the actual number of cases within the BPO cannot be confirmed. She says the significant rise in cases cannot be linked to any one cluster of cases.
Bisasor Mckenzie states that the government is not considering any new restrictions at this time, in order to reduce the spread of the virus within the BPOs, but says the COVID-19 protocols must be followed to prevent clusters within these organizations.
While Kingston and St. Andrew recorded 116 confirmed COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, the parish second to this is Westmoreland with 82 cases closely followed by Manchester with 77.
