Air Traffic Control Centre Reopened In Kingston

The Kingston Air Traffic Control Centre has officially reopened, after air services in and out of Jamaica were affected by a lightening strike in 2017.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness who was at the ceremony says the upgrade of the Air traffic Control Centre is opportunely timed. Flights within Jamaica’s airspace were severely impacted when lightning damaged critical equipment at the Air traffic Control Centre. At the time, several flights were delayed but the Jamaica  Civil Aviation Authority indicated that efforts were in place to restore functions. Two years later and that promised has now been fulfilled.

According to Prime Minister Holness, the Air traffic Control Centre is a multi-billion dollar investment in the Aviation Industry that contributes billions of dollars to the economy.

Minister of Transport and Mining, Robert Montague notes that the technology being used will allow for real time control of airports and monitoring of planes landing and taking off from the Kingston Air Traffic Control Centre.
