97 men and 10 women, who represented the 80th intake of correctional officers, underwent 12 weeks of training with emphasis on the acquisition of the core skills and knowledge necessary to stem recidivism.

107 correctional officers participated in the passing out parade of the 80th intake of correctional officers at the Carl Rattray Staff College in Runaway Bay, St. Ann Friday.

Keynote speaker at the event Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Courtney Williams, sought to encourage the officers of their task at hand.

He also reiterates that they put the training they’ve learned into practice and be accountable. In the meantime, the permanent secretary highlights there will be an upgrade in surveillance systems at facilities across the island. Williams also adds that as more inmates are expected to enter the correctional facilities, their modernization is crucial.
