The Ministry of Education has announced the way forward and the requirement for face-to-face classes, for the commencement of the new school year. In a release on Friday, August 27, the Ministry said all schools will begin classes on Monday, September 6, utilizing the modalities that were in operation in the last school year; online learning, audio-visual learning using the television and radio, and or printed learning packages.

As for face-to-face classes, an assessment will be carried out in the third week of September to determine a feasible date. The Education Minister, Fayval Williams, says that students in secondary schools will return to face-to-face once their school achieves a 65-per cent vaccination rate or higher.

As of August 27, 2021, approximately 28,000 students received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The nation’s secondary school population is approximately 247,000.
