Six-hundred and eight schools across the island reopened for face to face learning on Monday for the new school term. Of that number 568 are primary schools, 10 infant schools and 30 secondary schools.
Speaking during a virtual post cabinet meeting, earlier today Education Minister Fayval Williams notes many schools remain online. Data from the ministry of education suggests that most primary schools across Jamaica have resumed face to face learning.
One hundred and seventy-three primary schools and one hundred and twenty secondary schools opted to remain online to engage students for the new term. Education Minister Williams says so far majority of the schools that resumed physical learning have reported no issues.
To address the learning loss, Minister Williams says for the early childhood sector this year, the age 4 assessment will be done. Primary schools will see the testing of students in grades 1 and 2.
Additionally, it was revealed that the 65- per cent vaccination target set for students for the resumption of face to face learning in secondary schools has not been reached.
