A ground breaking ceremony for the long awaited Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project took place in the resort town. The Government of Jamaica has invested over 200 million US dollars in the project, which is a component of its major development initiatives. Following the signing of a contract with China Harbour in November 2021, the Montego Bay perimeter road project is now ready to commence.

The project is at an estimated cost of 274.5 million US dollars. Keynote speaker at the ground breaking ceremony Prime Minister Andrew Holness, say’s this development is important for the parish of St. James which serves as a major tourism hub.

PM holness noted the success and development of the country is not solely government, but for the people. Mr. Holness adds the perimeter road project is only one aspect of the government’s development project. He outlined other areas for development. However while there’s criticism on the current economic challenges facing the nation the prime minister noted that while instant relief may not be immediate, the long term investments will be to the benefit of the country.
