Road Crashes During Curfew Hours – Motorists are being urged to cut their speed, observe the curfew hours and no-movement days designated under the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA). The appeal comes in light of the increase in road fatalities during curfew hours, compared to the similar period last year. The leading cause of the crashes is excessive speeding followed by failure to keep to the proper traffic lane.

Three hundred and twenty-eight (328) persons have so far been killed in traffic crashes since the start of the year, a five per cent increase when compared to a similar period in 2020.

Fatal crashes and fatalities during curfew hours have increased by one hundred and twenty-nine per cent and one hundred and sixty-six per cent respectively when compared with the same period last year.
