In the wake of a suspected suicide in St. Mary, there is a growing call among stakeholders to enhance mental health education and support. Tameka Atherton, a 19-year-old bartender from Islington, was found hanging from a roof with a cord wrapped around her neck on Tuesday, shortly after 1 pm. Viola Kelly, her mother, is left questioning the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s untimely death. Despite being described as always smiling and showing no signs of depression, Tameka’s tragic demise has prompted renewed efforts to address mental health challenges in the community. Her stepfather, Damion, expressed regret, believing that a swifter response could have made a difference. Tameka, who would have celebrated her 20th birthday on February 20, was the youngest of seven children in her family.
