A drug bust this time in Portland has yielded almost 10 million dollar worth of Marijuana (Ganja), police says this is the second seizure in the parish since the start of the year.

The Portland police carried out targeted raids in the communities of Belle Castle and Hector’s River, in the parish between 3:45 and 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 5. Two dwellings were searched during the operation.

Superintendent of Police for the Portland Division, Kenneth Chin says at one of the houses twenty black plastic bags containing parcels of compressed Ganja was found.

Thirty-three black plastic bags containing knitted bags filled with parcels of compressed Ganja was found at the second house. Both of the scenes were processed by the Scenes of Crime Unit. Superintendent Chin says one man has been taken in custody.

Superintendent Chin says the Portland police will continue to target criminal elements who are bent on tarnishing the parish’s reputation. The investigation is being led by a team from the Area 2 Narcotics Division. Meanwhile, he is lauding the lawmen for going above and beyond the call of duty in executing the operation.
