On Friday scores of police were awarded and lauded for their hard work and dedication to fighting crime. Corporal Rohan Smith was named the Chairman’s top awardee at the Lasco/JCF Saluting Our Heroes and Chairman’s award luncheon.
Corporal Rohan Smith took home the Chairman’s Trophy along with a one hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) cash prize.
Woman Sergeant Alsian Clayton, from the Westmoreland Division, was named the first runner-up and awarded one hundred thousand ($100,000) while District Constable Alfred Palmer of the Area 4 Community Safety and Security (CSS) Branch took the second runner-up spot and received seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000).
Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson beamed with pride at the wins. The Commissioner says despite the notion that the police are hated polls show otherwise.
Anderson explains while their jobs may be thankless, there is a sense of reward in the less publicized moments of thanks from civilians at random. He also reminded us that many police personnel are also from gritty communities; however, they opted for a different path.
