Twenty-seven (27) nationals are set to return to Jamaica on a repatriation
flight from London. Through exemptions granted by the Ministry of National
Security under the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA), the nationals will
arrive on the island on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Sen. the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, said she is pleased that a small cohort will return, noting however that they will
immediately enter state quarantine in accordance with public health requirements. At the end of that period and subject to negative test results, they will then be able to be
reunited with their families. Johnson Smith noted, “Through the facilitation of the Jamaican High Commission in London, our Consular Affairs Department, the Ministries of National Security and Health as well as their relevant agencies, we are thankful to welcome home our nationals who were facing particular challenges following UK travel restrictions.”
Minister Johnson Smith further stated, “We do have an additional 66 persons registered with the Jamaican High Commission in London who are also waiting to return. The High Commission has assured me that they remain actively engaged with them and will update them on the lifting of the travel restrictions scheduled to next expire on April
30, recognizing, of course, that flight availability will still however be a challenge for travelers from that country.”
Minister Johnson Smith thanked the High Commission, the Consular Affairs Department, and other stakeholders including British Airways for their assistance in bringing home our nationals. The Foreign Minister is reassuring the public that all is being done to ensure that our nationals are kept informed during this difficult period, and encouraging persons to reach out to the High Commission to ensure that they have official information and facts.
