Time is winding down for the last gun amnesty before the new harsher penalties come into full effect Prime Minister Andrew Holness made his final appeal to anyone who could benefit from the measure. The amnesty ends at midnight Saturday.
This as the government seeks to employ tougher legislation under the new firearms act of 2022 that could see at minimum a person spending 15 years in prison for gun related crimes.
The authorities say up to Friday scores of illegal firearms have been handed over under the two week long amnesty. Holness also made a special appeal to youngsters engaged in crimes to do the right thing before it’s too late.
