COVID-19 Wards Full At UHWI & Princess Margaret Hospital

COVID-19 wards full to capacity at UHWI and Princess Margaret Hospital – Jamaica recorded an all-time high of 120 new COVID-19 cases and three related deaths on Tuesday. Although the increase in cases and deaths has risen fast, many citizens have been enjoying the ease in restrictions and ignoring advice.

Citizens are constantly warned of the seriousness of the virus by the government and medical health professionals; however, the message seems to be falling on deaf ears.

Crowded scenes from Nomination Day and parties… Just a small indication of how eager some citizens have been to attend social gatherings. Also evident, is the clear disregard for social distancing and the wearing of masks despite the surge in COVID-19 cases. A number of politicians are currently in quarantine and others have tested positive.

Meanwhile, in delivering an update on bed availability in hospitals, the Ministry of Health and wellness (MOHW) on Wednesday says there are some 200 beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients available in the public health system at this time and currently 107 beds are occupied by patients receiving care.

The University Hospital of the West Indies, in St. Andrew and the Princess Margaret Hospital in St. Thomas has reportedly reached capacity on COVID-19 wards.
