Bus cleaner dies in a tragic accident: A Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus driver died yesterday, November 26, in what is being described as a tragic accident at the Portmore Depot.

The deceased is 41-year-old Rohan Robinson, who worked in the Maintenance Department, washing the undercarriages of buses. The JUTC says Robinson has been with the company since April 2014.

It has been reported that Robinson was in the washing area, referred to as the Washing Bay when he moved one of the buses. He then crashed into a column and two other buses. After hearing the commotion, it is reported that other staff members rushed to the scene. Robinson was found slumped over the steering. One team member then applied first aid to Robinson. However, Robinson was not responsive.

The Police were later summoned, along with Ambulance and Jamaica Fire Brigade personnel. Robinson was assessed by the team that operated the ambulance, then pronounced dead at the scene. His body was afterward removed and taken to a funeral parlor.

The matter is under active investigation by the Police as well as the Accident and Investigative Unit of the JUTC. CVM understands that bus cleaners are not authorized to drive or move buses and employees at the Portmore Depot will be provided with counseling to deal with the loss.
